Tips for Getting Ready for Kindergarten

How to Foster a Journey of Life-Long Learning

Featuring Grosse Pointe Public School System presenters: Dorothy Heitjan, Early Childhood Program Teacher and Speech-Language Pathologist, Kristen DeVooght, Speech-Language Pathologist, and Kim Maddalena, Kindergarten Teacher

This special presentation will help to clarify what children need academically, socially & emotionally in order to be prepared for Kindergarten.

We will present our Top Ten tips that help parents make learning a joyful experience and promote a journey of life-long learning for their children.

From reading to writing and arithmetic, the skills children need in kindergarten today are well above what you experienced as a child. As your child’s first teacher, you can foster a love of learning and turn frustration into learning opportunities.

We will provide insight on how children learn and how you can provide opportunities for your child to build self-confidence by building independent skills. The importance of play and real-world experiences, communication and language, curiosity and reasoning will also be explored.
